Before every start
Use the generator outdoors on firm, level ground. Complete these checks with the engine stopped and all appliances disconnected.
Oil and fuel
Check the correct engine-oil level and clean diesel fuel. Do not overfill either tank.
Leaks and damage
Look for fuel or oil leaks, loose fasteners, damaged cables, blocked air inlets and damaged sockets.
Electrical setup
Keep the output breaker off, unplug all loads and confirm grounding and cable condition.
Nameplate match
For PNG use, confirm the generator and appliances are suitable for 240V and 50Hz before connecting.
Start without load
Prepare the controls
Set the fuel control and engine switch to the operating position required by your model.
Start the engine
Use the recoil or electric starter as shown for your model. Use short attempts and allow the starter to cool between attempts.
Let it stabilise
Run at no load for a few minutes. Check for warning lights, leaks, abnormal smoke, noise or vibration.
Stop if unsafe
Do not connect equipment when voltage is unstable or the generator shows a fault.
Add load in the right order
- Turn on the generator output only after the engine is warm and stable.
- Connect one appliance at a time. Start the largest motor load first, then add smaller loads.
- Allow each motor, pump, freezer or power tool to reach normal running speed before adding another load.
- Keep total running and starting demand within the generator rating. Never bypass the output breaker.
Motor-driven appliances can need much more power while starting than while running. Use our size guide or send your load list before purchasing.
Shut down safely
Remove the load
Switch off and disconnect appliances, then turn the output breaker off.
Cool at no load
Run the engine without load for about three minutes unless an emergency requires immediate shutdown.
Stop the engine
Use the normal stop control, then close the fuel supply when required by the model.
Let it cool
Keep people away from hot exhaust and engine surfaces. Refuel or service only after cooling.
